Using an artificial intelligence (AI) model, Project Wisdom aims to boost the productivity of IT automation developers

In partnership news, Megaport and Zenlayer entered into a strategic partnership to expand the global reach of their on-demand private networks to more than 800 locations across six continents to their joint customers. In Germany, Vodafone Group and Altice have created a joint venture, FibreCo, to deploy fiber-to-the-home to up to seven million homes over the next six years. Dell Technologies and Fujitsu will collaborate to speed adoption and simplify deployment of open radio access network solutions globally.

AI and analytics news

Red Hat and IBM Research announced Project Wisdom, the first community project to create an intelligent, natural language processing capability for Ansible and the IT automation industry. Using an artificial intelligence (AI) model, the project aims to boost the productivity of IT automation developers and make IT automation more achievable and understandable for diverse IT professionals with varied skills and backgrounds.

Amazon Web Services and SK Telecom will codevelop a new set of computer vision services intended to make it easier and more cost-effective to build, use, and scale computer vision applications, which enhance productivity, maintain equipment, and improve facility safety.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced that King Abdullah University of Science and Technology selected HPE to build its next-generation supercomputer, Shaheen III, to deliver state-of-the-art supercomputing and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities for research in a variety of agricultural and environmental fields.

T-Mobile and Google Cloud announced plans to transform customer experiences for wireless customers everywhere, leveraging Google Cloud's expertise in data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML), and its extensive portfolio of leading 5G and edge computing products and solutions.

Innovation and leaderboard news

In innovation news, Nokia announced that it will lead the Hexa-X-II project, the second phase of the European 6G flagship initiative. This new phase will expand the Hexa-X partner list to 44 organizations that are tasked with creating the pre-standardized platform and system view that will form the basis for many inputs into future 6G standardization.

Red Hat and the FIWARE Foundation are teaming up on open-source technology to build an integrated, smart city platform that can enable cities across the world to be more resilient and improve citizens’ well-being with data.

The Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) formally unveiled ESnet6, the newest generation of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) high-performance network dedicated to science. It provides over 46 Tbps of bandwidth and intelligent network services for data-intensive research needs. The network is powered by collaboration between Esnet and Ciena's coherent optical technology.

In other science-related technology innovation news, Alaska Communications is collaborating with Oregon State University’s College of Engineering to allow wave activity data to be collected from the ocean floor via the company’s subsea fiber optic cable. Monitoring could provide early warning for coastal communities for dangerous sneaker waves and other threats. And, NTT Corporation and the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo (GSFS) have successfully produced the world's first communication signal using a battery and a circuit composed of environmentally friendly materials free of scarce elements and hazardous substances.

IoT news

In IoT news, Cradlepoint, Bosch, and T-Mobile are working together to deliver advanced IoT connectivity solutions using 5G wireless WAN technology. Use cases will include connectivity powering autonomous vehicles, robotics, and AR/VR at the Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners, one of the United States’ first smart cities.

Nokia is enhancing its industrial portfolio of ruggedized field router and smartphone equipment for use in hazardous, flammable, explosive and dusty environments, specifically to allow oil and gas companies and other industries to maintain vital connectivity of their workforce and machines.
